MecaNano’s 1st summer school in Roma
July 24, 2023 - July 28, 2023

The first of two planned summer schools of the MecaNano Cost Action will take place on 24-28th of July in Rome. The in-person event will take place at Università deglistudi Roma Tre, Department of Civil, Computer and Aeronautical Engineering in Rome. Christoph Kirchlechner of KIT and Marco Sebastiani of Roma Tre are organizing this event. Speakers will give presentations on topics related to the mechanics at the nano- and microscales to cover both experimental and simulation aspects. Among them, George Pharr (Texas A&M) – yes, from the well-known “Oliver and Pharr Method”! – will give a course on advanced nanoindentation, Daniel Kiener (Montanuniversität Leoben) will discuss on micro fractures, and Erik Bitzek (Max Plank Institute of Iron Research) is set to talk on plasticity and dislocation mechanics. Besides the theoretical lectures, practical data analysis will also be a feature of the summer
school. The summer school is directed towards Ph.D. students and postdoctoral researchers in nanoscale and microscale mechanics. It is not necessary for attendees to have indepth understanding in a field related to MecaNano, nor is it require to know a specific programming language. Only the willingness and enthusiasm to learn and to ask difficult questions to the lecturers are desirable.
