SUMMARY:MecaNano's 1st summer school in Roma
DESCRIPTION:The first of two planned summer schools of the MecaNano Cost Action will take place on 24-28th of July in Rome. The in-person event will take place at Università deglistudi Roma Tre\, Department of Civil\, Computer and Aeronautical Engineering in Rome. Christoph Kirchlechner of KIT and Marco Sebastiani of Roma Tre are organizing this event.  Speakers will give presentations on topics related to the mechanics at the nano- and microscales to cover both experimental and simulation aspects. Among them\, George Pharr (Texas A&M) – yes\, from the well-known “Oliver and Pharr Method”! – will give a course on advanced nanoindentation\, Daniel Kiener (Montanuniversität Leoben) will discuss on micro fractures\, and Erik Bitzek (Max Plank Institute of Iron Research) is set to talk on plasticity and dislocation mechanics. Besides the theoretical lectures\, practical data analysis will also be a feature of the summer\nschool. The summer school is directed towards Ph.D. students and postdoctoral researchers in nanoscale and microscale mechanics. It is not necessary for attendees to have indepth understanding in a field related to MecaNano\, nor is it require to know a specific programming language. Only the willingness and enthusiasm to learn and to ask difficult questions to the lecturers are desirable.

SUMMARY:WG1 and WG2 online pitching event
DESCRIPTION:Prof Diletta Giuntini\, Prof Dan Mordehai and Dr Daniel Kiener from working group WG1 (size effect) and Dr Verena Maier-Kiener\, Dr Julien Guénolé and Dr Tamás Csanádi from working group WG2 (Experimental and Simulation Challenges) are pleased to invite you to the online Pitching Event on June 20-21\, 2023\, from 10:00 to 12:00 am. The aim of this pitching event is to present yourself\, your work\, and your expectations for participating in the MecaNano Cost Action. The event will follow a dynamic format: a 5-minute presentation followed by a 5-minute discussion. The purpose of the event is to connect researchers on every level working on similar topics. You are warmly invited to submit your participation by mail at info@mecanano.com\, with “WG1/2 pitching event” as subject\, and with the following information: Name\, Position\, Affiliation\, Research area and Keywords. Your participation confirmation and the presentation template will be send to you after June 7. We look forward to hearing from you!
